Staff Spotlight

Staff Spotlight

Community Energy Project is proud to provide a variety of direct, in-homes services and educational workshops, and participate in important advocacy work. Behind all of these vital efforts is a team of vibrant, multifaceted, and hardworking individuals. We are excited to introduce the CEP Staff Spotlight, a series dedicated to the people who make everything we do possible. Today’s spotlight shines on CEP’s Finance Manager, Jackie Arcouette-Smit.

Connection is why we’re here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.” – Brené Brown

1.Describe your role at CEP and what makes you passionate about your position.

In my role as Finance Manager, I oversee the day to day financial obligations at CEP. I feel passionate about helping to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes so that CEP can continue to serve low-income and marginalized communities in our area.

2. Describe your work/relevant personal background and how this empowers you at CEP.

I ran a remodeling business with my husband for almost 25 years doing the same work that I do now. We specialized in exterior remodeling with an emphasis on making homes more energy efficient and were a trade ally with Energy Trust of Oregon. I feel that this background helps me to better understand the importance of the work we do at CEP.

3. Describe the program/department you run and why it is important to CEP/the community you serve.

The function of the Finance & Administration department is to make sure all of the day to day operations are running smoothly so that CEP can continue to serve the community.

4. What is a problem that the Portland community faces and how is your team addressing the issue?

One of the biggest issues facing Portland is the lack of affordable housing. My team helps keep CEP running so that we can continue to help keep families in their homes and make those homes safer and more comfortable.

5. What makes CEP unique in addressing climate change?

Social justice cannot exist without climate justice. CEP advocates not only our clients, but for access to resources and programs that protect the environment. Through our energy efficiency services, advocacy efforts, and our role as the low-income facilitator for the Oregon Community Solar Program, CEP is a role model for other states to implement programs like ours to combat climate change.

6. If you had to pick one meal to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

The chicken thigh kabob bowl from Nicholas restaurant.
