Portland Clean Energy Fund & CEP
Community Energy Project is on track to install home energy retrofits in black-owned homes in Portland as part of our partnership with the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF). These retrofits include insulation, air sealing, heating and cooling system replacement, and related repairs. Some of the homes will also receive rooftop solar systems. All clients are low income and the majority are seniors.
PCEF projects have 3 main objectives: Energy savings, decarbonization, and increased equity.
We anticipate an average of 36% in energy savings per project.
Decarbonization is another word for replacing fossil fuels with electricity. By replacing oil and gas furnaces and water heaters with high-efficiency electric models, we anticipate a 49% average reduction in CO2 emissions per project.
PCEF jobs aim to increase equity by serving Portland’s black community, which has historically experienced housing discrimination in the form of redlining, predatory lending, a displacement via gentrification and “urban renewal” projects. Our work helps redress these injustices by increasing the value of black-owned homes, increasing the durability of the structures, and empowering older clients to “age in place” without depleting their fixed incomes on high heating bills and expensive equipment maintenance and repair.
