Expert Tips on Using our Free Workshop Materials
We spoke with our In-Homes Manager, Roc Aiken, about some expert tips on using our free workshop materials this winter. He has looked at thousands of homes and has created a checklist he recommends for clients.
Expert tips on using our free workshop materials this winter?
- Put pipe foam on your water heater pipes for safety and cost savings
- Use caulking around single-pane and wood windows to seal gaps
- Cover big windows and patio doors with plastic window coverings
- Insulate your attic hatch with foam tape
- Seal your doors to stop drafts with weatherstripping
Why is it so important for you to support underserved communities?
I was raised by my grandmother who was disabled. We didn’t have much so I was always looking for ways to make money, and she knew all of our neighbors and would put me on jobs in the neighborhood cutting grass or washing cars. So it is second nature to me to do this work, showing respect for each person we serve and building a relationship of trust with them and the community.
We encourage anyone in the community who needs help preparing their home for this winter to come to one of our 1-hour workshops to get free weatherization and insulation materials. Register here: https://www.communityenergyproject.org/cep_calendar/
